Why spend time learning about different email programs. After all - they just retrive the email from the server. How well they do it, how well they filter, how easy they are to hack and how easy and fun they are to use is the real difference. They following programs all work and will do the job. How safe, how easy and how fun is the answer. In each case the discussion will be about the current version.
Outlook: 
Outlook Ver. 2002: Part of the Office XP personal information management and communication solution. Powerful new tools for e-mail communication, group planning, scheduling, contact management and access to business information.
Steep learning curve. Easy email server setup. Common target for viruses and trojans. Computer virus protection required. Complex "spam" filters can be constructed or purchased from outside vendors. Must keep current with latest patches and critical updates. Depending on current specials and package deals, priced from $130.00 to $600.00 for the package it comes bundled with.

Outlook Express Ver. 6 SP1: Downloaded as part of the MS Internet Explorer 6 SP1 program. Solid, basic tool for e-mail communication. Minimal learning curve. Easy email server setup. Very common target for viruses and trojans. Computer virus protection required. Complex "spam" filters can be constructed or purchased from outside vendors. Must keep current with latest patches and critical updates. Free download with the IE 6 SP1 from Microsoft.
Netscape:
Netscape Mail Ver. 7: Downloaded as part of the Netscape Navigator program. Solid, basic tool for e-mail communication.
Minimal learning curve. Email server setup could be easier. Not a common target for viruses and trojans. Computer still requires virus protection. Fairly complex "spam" filters can be constructed. Normally just updated with new versions. Free download with Netscape 7.
Eudora: 
Eudora Ver. 5.2: Now from Qualcomm software. One of the oldest and best programs for e-mail communication. Single program can be configured three ways. Lite version; Free, with limited features. Adware version; Free with advertising running, full feature set. Purchased version; NO ads and full feature set.
