Spybot:
Testing for SpyBot is over and the results are seen in the fact it now carries the same rating as Ad-aware and it is placed above the listing for Ad-aware. The results are simple - run Ad-aware and then run Spybot - SpyBot finds files that Ad-aware missed. This is another useful free (they do ask for a donation) program: Spybot isn't perfect and it is new and I don't know about continued development or support. Ad-Aware SE:
While Ad-Aware isn't an antivirus program, it is still a needed part of today's computer protection. From Lavasoft, Ad-Aware SE checks (finds and removes - does not protect) a computer for the new class of "pest"; spyware, scumware, some which are stealing data and worse. Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta:
On December 16th 2004 Microsoft announced a "beta" program of a spyware protection, detection and removal tool, based on the Giant AntiSpyware product, which shipped in January 2005 for users of Windows 2000 and later versions. The beta scans a PC to locate spyware and other malware threats, and enable customers to remove them. According to Microsoft, the tool will also be configurable to block known spyware and other unwanted software from being installed on the computer. Available to "Registered" users of Microsoft supported OSs. This is a good anti-spyware program and its free from Microsoft, go figure: The information Link or Download from this page. Other than an OS, this is the first recommendation ever, from HRC, for a Microsoft Product.
Kaspersky: 
Kaspersky Labs was established in June, 1997. Eugene Kaspersky, the company's head of antivirus research started, in 1989, the development of the company's flagship project Kaspersky Anti-Virus. From Trend Micro: PC-cillin is shipped with many new computers and has a very good up-to-date product. Their line is not as complete as some of their competion. In recent test they have not done as well as the leading anti-virus programs. Their web site is trendmicro.com.
